The Leigh Team

Situated in the Borough of Wigan, and only 10 miles east of Manchester, Leigh is a town built on 6 building blocks of weaving, spinning, commerce, education, engineering and mining. And if you look a little further back in the history books, dairy farming produced the renowned Leigh Toaster cheese which has recently made a return to the shelves.

Today, Leigh is a diverse and vibrant town, home to the Leigh Centurions and the impressive Leigh Sports Village and to one of Butcher & Barlow’s 10 offices.

The office is situated in former Victorian terraced house, one of many in the town, on Railway Road, just a short walk from the town centre.

The team at the Leigh office is headed up by Commercial specialist Adam Shawcross and Private Client and Family Law specialist Claire Jackson, with the Residential Property team being led by Carole Carr.

Carole’s team is the largest Residential Property team in Leigh with over 70 years of experience between Carole, Emma Sargeant and Melanie Baybutt.  Having worked and/or  lived in the locality for many years there is very little that the team do not know about the town and its people.  Such local knowledge greatly assists with local property sales and purchases – potential problems and pitfalls can be highlighted from the outset ensuring that they are dealt with quickly and without holding up the transaction. The team also have built strong relationships with local estate agents, again paving the way for a smooth, stress free transaction.

Partners Claire Jackson and Adam Shawcross have over 30 years of experience between them.  Adam’s specialisms include Corporate and Commercial matters, Commercial Property and Commercial Dispute Resolution.  If you need assistance with matters of a more personal nature, Claire can help with drafting wills and powers of attorney and administrating estates, or family breakdowns and issues regarding children.

Adam, who grew up in nearby Wigan, says of the town:

‘The council is continuing to invest in the regeneration of Leigh and in improving it’s infrastructure and the town is going from strength to strength. The town has a diverse mix of people of people and business and it rewarding to be able to help and assist a community I grew up alongside.’

If you live in or around the Leigh area and require advice on any legal issue, contact the office on 01942 674 144 .  The team will be happy to have a brief chat with you on the phone or arrange a free initial interview.
