Butcher & Barlow rising star named as Young Achiever of the Year finalist

Thomas Sedley has been named as a Young Achiever of the Year finalist in the Personal Injury Awards 2022.

The awards, now in their 15th year, showcase the best and brightest law firms, lawyers and service providers in the legal industry and this year’s winners will be announced in a ceremony taking place at The Hilton Deansgate, Manchester, on 24 November.

Thomas qualified as a Solicitor in September 2020 having completed a law degree at Lancaster University taking the LPC at BPP Liverpool before joining Butcher & Barlow as a paralegal and later a Trainee Solicitor.

Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury work has been Thomas’s area of expertise since his paralegal days with the Firm, enabling him to develop considerable experience for somebody of his age and become a stand-out Fee Earner at Butcher & Barlow. In a short space of time, Thomas has been instrumental in some of the Firm’s biggest cases and has displayed his abilities as a shrewd and astute litigator.

Thomas said:

I feel honoured to be recognised alongside my peers in the industry and grateful to Butcher & Barlow for the support and experience they have allowed me thoughout my career so far.

I am committed to developing my case load and experience to establish myself as a respected and well-known solicitor in the North West and hope to progress to Associate and Partner in due course.

Thomas’s journey highlights our belief in developing talent and nurturing the careers of our staff through our Future Lawyers scheme, offering training and providing the support needed for a successful law career.

Greg Porter, Head of Personsal Dispute Resolution said:

It’s great that Thomas has been shortlisted and recognised in this way by his peers, but it comes as no surprise to those of us that work with him.

Thomas has quickly become an integral part of the Dispute Resolution team following his qualification and has successfully taken over and continued to develop the complex and high value case load of our Managing Partner, Anthony Higham.

His pragmatic approach to complex and sensitive issues is greatly appreciated by clients who welcome and respect his accurate, clear and politely confident advice.

I have every confidence that Thomas’ career will progress rapidly and am confident that he is a Partner in the making.
