Meet Katy Morgan, Angharad Al-Bazi and Tiffany Shoesmith

In our news article of the 5th September 2019, we welcomed Trainee Solicitor Katy Morgan and Paralegals Tiffany Shoesmith and Angharad Al-Bazi to the Firm.

We have now had the chance to sit down over a cup of tea and learn a little more about our new starters.

Welcome to the Firm! I hope you are all settling in well. What inspired your chosen career path of becoming a lawyer?

Angharad: My first interaction with a solicitor was when I was very young (about 7 years old), when my mother went to see a local solicitor in Wrexham about probate after my grandmother passed away. Although I was very young, I remember so clearly the solicitor being so understanding and comforting during a difficult time for our family. Since then I kept asking my mum what solicitors did/do – she sold the profession so well that being a solicitor is what I’ve only ever really wanted to do since.

Katy: I’d also had law in mind for a long while. When I was at University I completed summer internships and work experience, where I observed and assisted Solicitors on a daily basis.  This confirmed that law definitely was the career for me and inspired me to qualify as a Solicitor.

 

Any of you have any light hearted anecdotes from your careers so far?

Katy: Not during my time here yet as it’s only my second day! – but I did once serve Meghan Markle when I worked in hospitality if I can class that as a career anecdote!

 

I think that is a good name drop! What are your aspirations for the future?

Angharad: Overall I’d like to ensure, so far as possible, that clients are kept as updated as can be and that they don’t feel daunted by using a firm and seeking legal advice.

Tiffany: I would like to qualify as a solicitor hopefully in Family law or Private Client.  There are still so many areas of law I have not considered yet so it will be interesting to see what area I actually end up in!  Aside from this, I would like to own a house in the next year or so and go on plenty of holidays.

 

What are your interests outside of work?

Angharad: I’ve been exhibiting and judging dogs (mainly Papillon’s and Lhasa Apso’s) around the UK, including exhibiting at Crufts. Unfortunately this has had to take a bit of a back seat whilst I’ve been at uni and working, so I’m hoping to get back into exhibiting by the end of the year. I enjoy the usual things such as going out for food, the theatre and more recently ballet (the Great Gatsby at the Lowry was amazing!) I enjoy travelling when I’m able to; Iceland has been my favourite destination so far.

Katy: I love travelling too – I’ve just recently spent 2 months in South East Asia. On a more daily basis I love reading and trying to keep active.

Tiffany: Both of you sound very well-travelled – amazing destinations to visit! I would love to go on African safari holiday to see the animals. I’d also love to go to Egypt to see the pyramids – it was my favourite part of history to learn about in primary school.

Angharad: An African safari sounds fabulous Tiffany. I’m partial to a colder climate myself – I would love to visit Canada for the views, wildlife and maple syrup!

Tiffany: Can’t beat maple syrup! Aside from holidaying, I enjoy going to the gym.  I am an early riser and usually go at 5am before work.  I also love to read and use my tram ride to and from work as an opportunity to fit this into my day.  I have tried to take up baking recently but so far I have only made 6 cakes!

 

I’m sure there will be plenty of people at Bury willing to be your taste testers! If you could tell your 15 year old self something, what would it be?

Katy: To enjoy life more in the moment and stress less about the future

Tiffany: I think I would rather my 15 year old self tell my 24 year old self something! That would be to chill out and relax.

 

Who do you admire in the business world?

Tiffany: I admire anyone with the courage to start a business from scratch.

Katy: Karen Brady – for taking on and being successful in the football industry

 

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Katy: Black –because it is definitely the most practical and useful crayon (not because I’m miserable)

Tiffany: Tiffany blue of course.  Bright but classy (I hope)

Angharad: A rainbow crayon – why be one colour when you can be seven?

 

How would your friends describe you?

Katy: Easy-going, always up for an adventure, and reliable

Tiffany: I think my friends would describe me as outgoing and fun.   I hope that’s how they would describe me anyway!

Angharad: Ditsy but thoughtful, probably in 75:25 ratios.
