There’s a strong support network here and people are always willing to help each other to get the best outcome for clients.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Butcher & Barlow.

I live close to the Runcorn office, where I’m based and I really enjoy being part of a firm that is so embedded in its communities. I think that’s important and means a lot to our clients. I’m the first point of contact for many of our clients – supporting them at the start of their journey with Butcher & Barlow – and my role involves understanding what clients need, directing them to the right legal expert and making sure they feel supported from the very first conversation.

You’re often the first person clients speak to. How do you help put people at ease?

Many people contact us at stressful or uncertain times, so it’s important to be calm, approachable and reassuring. I focus on listening carefully, explaining next steps and what’s going to happen clearly and making sure clients know they’re in safe hands. Building that early trust is really important.

What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are the same, which is one of the things I really enjoy. My day usually involves speaking with new and existing clients, managing enquiries and working closely with colleagues across the Firm to ensure matters are progressed smoothly. There’s a lot of variety, which keeps the role interesting and rewarding.

How do you work with colleagues across the firm?

Collaboration is key. I regularly liaise with different teams and fee earners to make sure clients are directed to the right team or person and that nothing falls through the cracks. There’s a strong support network here and people are always willing to help each other to get the best outcome for clients.

How would you describe the culture at Butcher & Barlow?

It’s very supportive and down to earth. From the Partners through to the wider team, there’s a real sense that everyone is approachable. That attitude filters through the whole Firm and makes it a positive place to work.

What skills are most important in your role?

Organisation and communication are essential. You need to be able to manage multiple enquiries while still giving each client the time and attention they need. Being personable and empathetic also makes a big difference.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Apart from the team environment and the variety the role brings, I really enjoy helping people at what can be a difficult time and knowing you’ve made the process easier for them. I like thinking that at the end of a day I’ve made a difference to someone and hopefully they’ve gone away having had a positive experience of us.

My three words to describe Butcher & Barlow are: Approachable, local and efficient.
