Welcome to Nicholas Ball

Butcher & Barlow are pleased to welcome solicitor Nicholas Ball to their Northwich office.

Nick Ball, a property specialist, joined the Firm earlier this month and will be heading up the Residential Property team at the Firm’s office at London Road, Northwich.

Nick joins Butcher & Barlow from another Cheshire based legal practice and brings with him a broad range of experience in both residential and commercial property, from freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, to acquisitions of land for property development and the subsequent onward plot sales.

Of his move Nick said:

‘I am excited to join a Firm of the calibre of Butcher & Barlow. They have a reputation for their professional yet friendly attitude to clients. Having been in Northwich for over 25 years they have built relationships with local solicitors and businesses which benefits the clients by aiding the progress of property transactions.’

Caroline Cockill-Guy, Partner at the London Road office said of the appointment:

‘We are very pleased to have Nick join the team here in Northwich. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience dealing with both residential and commercial property transactions, adding another dimension to our already highly regarded team.’

We asked Nick a few questions to help us get to know him better professionally and personally.

What made you want to be a lawyer?

I have always enjoyed reading, analysing and writing rather than the likes of maths and science. As I got older, I realised that I also enjoyed the more laborious of tasks such as researching. Having considered all of these things I decided that I wanted to be a lawyer from a very young age.

What is a typical working day?

As a lawyer, is there such a thing as a typical day? All too often as lawyers we arrive at the office first thing and plan out our day only to be faced with something urgent and unexpected which needs to be dealt with. This is one of the bonuses of the job in that you never know what is around the corner.

Are there any interesting cases you have been involved in?

I have recently acted in connection with the acquisition of a number of apartments in what was the old power station in London and due to the history of the site the papers that I received from the seller’s solicitor ran some 3 foot deep… I’m not sure how interesting this will be for most but it certainly kept me entertained for a couple of days!

 What are your aspirations?

My aspirations are to use the experience and knowledge that I have gained to assist my clients in achieving their goals.

What keeps you busy outside of the office?

I have a French bulldog named Pippa and she keeps me busy most of the time.

If you could tell your 15 year old self something, what would it be?

Live for the moment and don’t spend too much time concentrating on trying to plan out your career. It will happen.

If you could be someone else for the day, who would it be?

I would quite like to spend a day in the shoes of David Attenborough just to experience some of the amazing things that he gets to experience on a regular basis.

Who do you admire in the business world?

Richard Branson. To go from relatively small beginnings to one of the most influential people in the business world is impressive.

And finally, you are a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

I think I would be blue because I’m very calm and composed. I can keep my head cool in the most stressful situation and take difficult decisions.
