Jim qualified as a solicitor in 1980 and joined Hough & Co that year, becoming a Partner in 1982. Jim became a partner with Butcher & Barlow in 2011 as a result of the merger of the 2 practices.

Jim specialises in Wills and Probate, Powers of Attorney, Trusts and Inheritance Tax Planning.  This entails extensive dealings with the ever increasing legal problems faced by the older members of society for whom locally Jim is considered the 'go to' lawyer.

Jim also specialises in Commercial Conveyancing including Landlord and Tenant work (where he has acted for a number of prominent local property professionals on their own properties).

He has forged close ties with the communities of the Runcorn and Frodsham areas amongst whom he lives and works.

Jim describes himself as a refugee from Yorkshire and counts skiing, P G Wodehouse and a painful devotion to Sheffield United amongst his out of office interests.  Jim also plays bass guitar in a covers band.
