I completed my training with Butcher & Barlow LLP, firstly as a Paralegal in 2015 and then as a Trainee Solicitor from 2016 to 2018. Prior to joining Butcher & Barlow, I read law at Aberystwyth University where I attained a First Class Honours degree. I then completed my Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, Chester and achieved a Distinction.

As part of my Training Contract, I worked across different offices within Butcher & Barlow in various departments including Civil Litigation, Residential and Commercial Property, Company Law, Private Client (including Wills and Probate) and Family Law. In the last seat of my Training Contract, I was based in the Firm’s Bramhall office assisting Nicola Wingfield within the Family Law team. This mostly encompassed public law and Legal Aid work, such as cases with involvement from the Local Authority.

Having known that I wanted to specialise in Family Law for some time, I qualified into this area in September 2018. I then spent some time initially working at another firm in Cheshire within their injunction department which involved daily advocacy and obtaining urgent Non-Molestation Orders, Occupation Orders and/or Prohibited Steps Orders. I also assisted clients with separation matters including divorce, matrimonial finances and child arrangements.

I have since spent some time in the South Manchester area undertaking work involving a variety of high value and often complex financial matters associated with divorce. This included cases with high value pensions, shares, investments and properties. I also continued to advise regarding divorce and child arrangements as well as cases concerning unmarried couples, particularly regarding property disputes.

I re-joined Butcher & Barlow in February 2022 as a Solicitor based in the Frodsham office  and I am delighted to have been promoted to an Associate Solicitor from May 2022. I represent clients in all aspects of Family Law on a privately paying basis.

As a member of Resolution, I believe that Family Law disputes are best dealt with in a constructive and supportive environment. I like to consider myself as an empath. I appreciate the need for sensitivity and compassion in the work that I do and the importance of developing trust.

My commitment to the Resolution code of conduct, and my expertise in Family Law, is further evidenced by my Accreditation as a Family Law Specialist with Resolution.  This Specialist Accreditation scheme is designed to recognise members who demonstrate excellence in the practice of Family Law and their outstanding level of skills and expertise.

I am originally from the South of England, having moved to Cheshire just before starting College in 2009. Along the way, I have travelled quite extensively and lived in America for some time. Outside of work I love baking, exercising and travelling, and also spoiling my little cats, Wisgi and Pippin.

What our clients say about Alex

Myself and partner were involved with another firm of solicitors for approximately two years. We had an absolute nightmare with them. Nothing was moving forward and solicitor involved would not respond to calls or give any updates. Time was of the essence as my partner had alzheimers. We took the decision to speak to Alex Williams after she was referred to us by a family friend. After speaking to Alex, we decided to move everything over to Butcher & Barlow. Alex very kindly agreed to take on a very complex case that had been ongoing for approximately two years. Alex kept us updated every step of the way and had achieved more in first couple of months than that of the other solicitor in two years. Alex was very easy to speak to and very understanding of our circumstances. Alex showed compassion to my partner and would always involve him with any discussion/decisions when we met in person. Alex would always show patience when he wasn't having his best days. I would always get a response to my calls and emails, no matter the query, and without fail. Alex made our life a little easier when she agreed to take us on as clients. I trusted Alex to do what needed to be done, and I could concentrate on looking after my partner. Sadly after some time, my partner passed from alzheimers. Even then, Alex came to our home with flowers, a card, even a big hug and to pass on her condolences. She didn't have to do that but it just shows the type of person she is..... I'm extremely grateful to Alex and all the staff at Butcher & Barlow for everything, but most of all, for being understanding and patient of Billy's needs. I highly recommend Alex and those at Butcher & Barlow, so much so, I am a client again with Philip who is dealing with different matters. I don't think I could use another firm now, especially after all the trouble we had previously.

Carole

I was initially with the Runcorn branch but due to my Solicitor leaving the company, I was transferred to the Frodsham branch. Both are about the same travel time, so no real issues. Alex Williams took over my case and she was amazing, always ready to give me advice, be that good or bad. She helped make some difficult decisions easier to swallow by explaining everything in extremely simple terms. If I ever need a solicitor again (I hope not) I'll be back!

They are a very good firm for getting things done quickly and professionally. Our solicitors went beyond the call of duty to get us what we wanted. 5 stars isn't high enough for them.

Nicola

Alex was fantastic with my case, really helped me understand everything going on from start to finish and was always available when needed. Made this emotional endeavour a lot easier and smoother for me, and I am very very grateful .Thank you.

Jay

At a very stressful time they represented us in a family matter. Throughout the whole proceedings they were completely professional, kept us informed at every stage and supported us on the lead up to and throughout the court proceedings. All staff involved with our case were friendly, courteous and respectful.

Mr W

I always appreciate good service and especially in unfamiliar territory. I had absolutely no idea where to start and it can feel intimidating but you’ve made the whole process easy. You have been more than helpful. You were recommended to me by another Solicitor who uses your Firm. I will also be recommending you to others.
